![]() Men gambling in the town. 1802 — Bath received its postal name, Berkeley Springs. This name is still in effect today. 1809 — Baltimorean Charles Velde proposed health spa related improvements at Berkeley Springs. The Bath Trustees did not implement them. 1811 — Gambler Robert Bailey opened hotels, operated gambling halls, and revived Berkeley Springs as a fashionable resort. He championed its rebuilding. 1812 — The War of 1812 filled Berkeley Springs with wealthier escapees fleeing from British danger. 1815 — The Roman Bath House and Gentlemens’ Spring House were built. Both are still in use today. |
