1974 to Present ~ Current Golden Age as Spa and Art Town
The period starts with new roads making travel easier, an expanded Washington economy providing visitors and another disastrous downtown fire.
1974 — Fire destroys Washington Hotel, last of the grand resort hotels. Also takes adjacent commercial sructures and Opera House — a downtown block.
Apple Butter Festival rises on ashes of hotel. Continues today.
