1783 – 1796 ~ Building Boom in Bath

1784 — Steamboat inventor James Rumsey demonstrates mechanical boat model for George Washington. Rumsey agrees to build Washington a house on lots he bought overlooking the springs.

First bath buildings open.

1793 — Noted physician Dr. Benjamin Ruh recommends medicinal use of baths at Berkeley Springs.

Bath noted as fashionable resort all must visit.

1794 — President George Washington and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton stop at inn for a night on their way to western Pennsylvania to subdue the Whiskey Rebellion.
