 Berkeley Springs Castle
1876 — Improvements were made to the baths. The hotel business revives; Many businesses advertised in Washington, DC.
1881— Additional land was purchased for park which included the Washington Elm.
1885-– Colonel Samuel Suit began work on the Berkeley Castle for his bride, Rosa Pelham. Soon a widow, her elaborate parties defined spa social life.
1887— Henry Harrison Hunter, local inventor and bathkeeper, designed and built new bathhouses in the current State Park.
1888— A railroad spur stopped at the Train Depot at the north end of Berkeley Springs.
1892 — Berkeley Springs Water Works utilized the springs to provide a central water system for town residents.
1897 — This year marked the final end-of-season ball at the Berkeley Springs Castle.
1898 — The 500-room Berkeley Springs Hotel burned down. Consequently, the spa business suffered due to the loss of lodging.
